Every 15 hours, a child is born with cerebral palsy

About Us

Our Vision

A future without cerebral palsy

To conduct high quality research to reduce the prevalence and severity of cerebral palsy and enhance the health and wellbeing of people with cerebral palsy.

“Surely this is the dream of every parent of a child with cerebral palsy (CP); that tomorrow no child should be born with CP."

Marelle Thornton AM, President of Cerebral Palsy Alliance and mother of a child with cerebral palsy.

Our Mission

To prevent and cure cerebral palsy

Our Aim

To create a funding source of $50 million to build research sustainability

The Research Foundation of Cerebral Palsy Alliance was established to take on the global challenge to find the prevention and cure for cerebral palsy. This will be achieved by:

  • Funding research
  • Expanding a grants program
  • Encouraging researchers to adopt cerebral palsy as their area of study
  • Bringing together the best minds and research from around the world, and sharing the information globally
  • Building partnerships

Cerebral Palsy Alliance founded the Research Foundation to realise its vision of a future without cerebral palsy.

The Research Foundation has established a partnership with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Some of our grants are matched by the NHMRC. This partnership doubles the funding for supported projects and maximises our chances of success.

To date, the foundation has funded research projects in most Australian states and territories. Around the world, Australian research expertise is highly regarded. We also fund international research that meets our research priorities.
